MISSED THE FIRST CLASS

Food, Body Types and The Spiritual Self

Discover the Prophetic Approach to Balancing Our Physical and Spiritual Health

If you were unable to attend the first class of the Living By Design Mentorship Programme, you can now watch the full replay.

This was not a webinar, promotional talk, or condensed overview. It was the actual first class of the programme, delivered live to enrolled students.

We laid the foundation for understanding health through both a spiritual and physical lens.

Topics included:

  • The relationship between food, desire, and Shaytan, and how eating habits can either protect or weaken the heart

  • The distinction between the nafs, the jism (physical body), and the Ruh, and why each requires a different form of nourishment

  • How overindulgence and feeding the nafs can lead to a cycle of physical imbalance, poor decisions, and illness

  • An introduction to body types, how they relate to digestion, metabolism, and weight gain, and why your body’s foundation cannot be changed

  • Prophetic guidance on food, intention, and blessing, including ahadith related to eating and remembrance of Allah

We also introduced key prophetic remedies and practices, including:

  • Black seed (Nigella sativa), its role in strengthening the body and supporting resilience when used correctly

  • Miswak, not only as an oral hygiene tool but as a medicinal herb

This class was designed to shift how you think about nourishment, discipline, and healing, and to set the framework for everything that follows in the mentorship.

What We Will Explore in Class 1

The First Disobedience with Food

We begin with reflection on the ayah concerning Adam and Hawwa and the prohibition of the tree.Through tafsir and guided reflection, we explore:

  • Why food was the first point of disobedience

  • The role of desire and shaytaan

  • The lasting spiritual and physical lessons embedded in this ayah

Intentional Living and Planning

This section explores the prophetic understanding of intention, planning, and discipline, beginning with the hadith of the Pen and divine decree.

It establishes the mindset required for sustainable spiritual and physical change.

The Spiritual and Physical Self

We examine how spiritual imbalance often manifests through food habits, health struggles, and lifestyle patterns.

This lesson introduces body types as understood in Islamic medicine and how each individual’s physical constitution influences digestion, metabolism, and overall health.

We reflect on the prophetic narration describing human diversity and its relevance to personalised health.

Traditional Cooking Technique & Herb Monographs

You will be introduced to one traditional cooking technique used throughout the programme, demonstrating how preparation itself plays a role in nourishment.

Two herbal monographs will be presented to demonstrate how herbs are studied, evaluated, and applied within the Living By Design framework.
